Origami Poppies

Updated: Jul 8, 2022

I just recently was able to complete an origami poppy tutorial video and instructions. I was inspired to make this craft through Remembrance day, and found a good online reference. Although at first, trying out this design was a bit of a struggle due to only finding on a web page with no video. The page had a really flat design so I had to compensate and free-style a few parts. I had messed up a few times on the get-go, but compared to the other ones designs, this one that I had found was a lot better.

This process of making the instructions and kits was actually a lot better and smoother for me than usual, because of my experience. I was able to properly spread out the work and figure out how to make the instructions because I had the original website to reference off of. In fact, because of that, I was able to build a more solid instruction design, and could finish the kits early by a day. I think the video turned out really well as well, and to set the right mood, as I choose a soundtrack from my favourite video game. In all, I hope that it brings feelings of nostalgia, and bittersweet memories, which it did for myself.

I was really glad that I was able to give the kits to Suzie once again! I was happy to see her, especially considering it had been about a year. I'm also glad that when she handed out the kits, she was able to receive a lot of positive feedback, and personally was excited to use them. Overall I really liked how the poppies turned out, and also had a multi-purpose to be used as pin. I think that if I can continue to do this well, I might be able to host an in class session for origami, which really excites me.
