Summer Fun in the Park

Updated: Apr 25, 2024

Although I was working three part-time jobs around this time I thankfully planned ahead and squeezed one more origami craft session in. I also changed up the crafts because I wanted to create projects that the children would not get bored with. This time I taught how to make origami frog rings and talking foxes. I thought the kids would prefer something more interactive and customizable. Owning something unique to yourself holds much more meaning and makes the creation process much more impactful.

I was glad of how much of a hit the origami frog rings were! People wanted to keep on making them and it was really fun teaching the families and seeing a whole family match together! Also, I wasn't as lonely at my booth because one of my friends came to teach with me. It is nice having someone else come to help you because it helps deal with the feeling of being overwhelmed. In the last time's session, I personally dislike having to make kids wait and having to deal with the long period of emptiness in between. My friend and I also got to catch up a lot, but I was sad to see her go as she was leaving for the University of Toronto.

As the sun set, I knew that this would be the last Project Bloom event in a while as I would be heading off to university the next year and was preparing for that. I am nervous about leaving for TWU as all my friends won't be coming with me. But I'm glad that I can carry all of the memories I made through Project Bloom including the families, children, and their experiences with my Project. I felt that I connected with the people this time and could see the families actually grow closer through my project and activity.
